Blush Cactus Silk Ultimate Bedding Bundle
Printed
This bedding is inspired by our vintage Cactus Silk textiles, created by Berber people, indigenous to North Africa. Berber textiles can be identified by region and tribe, detailed with stripes and symbols. The small symbols seen here mimic traditional tattoos that adorn Berber women. The symbols have many meanings, such as longevity, fertility, protection against the evil eye, cures for illnesses, tribal association, and marital status. Kantha is a native household craft originating from women in rural Bengal. The word kantha refers to a running stitch. Classic Kantha textiles are characterized by this stitch, which is often used to produce motifs such as flowers, birds, animals, and other folk scenes from everyday activities. This pillow is made from fabric that is inspired by Kuba cloth, a unique textile featuring complex designs that are created when various geometric raffia pieces are stitched to a plain raffia background. The resulting rough surface is punctuated by repeated geometric patterns with unexpected interruptions in design.
