PROVENANCE

This bedding is inspired by the Mossi people, renowned for their fine cotton weaving, a craft they have been practicing for centuries. According to one Mossi creation myth, the first Mossi ancestor descended to earth on the threads of his loom. Weaving is traditionally done in rural Mossi villages during the dry season. Kantha is a native household craft originating from women in rural Bengal. The word kantha refers to a running stitch. Classic Kantha textiles are characterized by this stitch, which is often used to produce motifs such as flowers, birds, animals, and other folk scenes from everyday activities. This pillow is made from fabric that is inspired by Kuba cloth, a unique textile featuring complex designs that are created when various geometric raffia pieces are stitched to a plain raffia background. The resulting rough surface is punctuated by repeated geometric patterns with unexpected interruptions in design.
