Hand-woven textiles were traditionally a symbol of Guinean tribal identity. Each tribe wove unique patterns to distinguish their community. The colors, dyes, and type of thread held spiritual and historical significance, and were often used for commemorative purposes to mark special occasions. Later, Guinean textiles became a form of currency, facilitating trade. Today, ancient designs and weaving methods are still used to create contemporary textiles. This St. Frank piece is created with thread that is handspun and hand dyed in small batches, then woven on traditional looms into precise patterns.
