Ombré Fog Napkin
Contemporary Handmade
·
India
This piece was created and hand-dyed in western India. The fog hue comes from the pomegranate peel, used by dyers from Europe, Southeast Asia, and India since ancient times. The pomegranate originated in Persia, then spread to the Mediterranean, Arabia, Afghanistan, India and China. Across these various cultures, the pomegranate symbolizes fertility, prosperity, and eternal life. Pomegranate peel, with the addition of other natural dyes like turmeric, can express a range of colors, from deep golden to grey to black. The ombre shades of this piece are created by deftly tying the linen and varying the number of dips.
