This criss cross basket is hand woven from bejuco de pimienta, or pepper vine, and banana stalks sustainably harvested from reforestation projects in Peten, Guatemala. The vines and stalks are harvested by hand by a group of women weavers who work from their homes to make each basket. The pepper vine is used to create the unique open weave of this basket, before the rim is finished with banana stalk fiber. No two baskets are the same, as each captures the weaver’s individual style. No damage is done to the forest to harvest the fibers.
